Occupational Therapy and RMT
An Occupational Therapist’s Experience Using RMT  RMT is an extremely powerful modality to use with special needs children during OT.  I have found it to kick start progress in extremely therapy-refractive preschool children.  Some examples of this are children who experience severe: Cerebral Palsy, Autism, ADHD and Cognitive Delay.  It also significantly accelerates progress with children who have general fine-motor delays including dysgraphia.  Preliminary results after 2 weeks of RMT, 10 minutes 3-4 x weekly:  A case review of 4 children with Z-scores at or below -3.60 on the PDMS-2
  • All children had made minimal to no progress in OT in a year or more up to the initiation of RMT
  • Within 2 weeks each child had made significant gains on measurable goals
  • 2 children with Cerebral Palsy improved age equivalents by 3 or more months
  • 2 children with severe social and cognitive deficits have made significant gains in social interaction, ie: eye contact, increased volition and improved reciprocal play
A case review of 5 children with Z-scores at or below -2.00 on the PDMS-2
  • All five children had been making slow progress on measurable goals
  • Within ONE week, all had made significant gains on measurable goals as measured by meeting objectives at least twice in a row when previously an objective had yet to be demonstrated.
A 6 month follow up study comparing Z-score progress will follow.
