Working with Children and Adults

These are the changes I have found in my son Jack since starting to use Rhythmic Movements with him.

At the present time Jack has now achieved pretend play, can tell me how he feels, can play with other children without hurting them, has stopped grinding his teeth, sucking his shirt and chewing bottle caps, and no longer wets the bed.  His fine motor skills (i.e. handwriting) have improved amazingly and continue to improve week by week even though we have completed the specific RMT for Babkin/palmomental some weeks ago.  Jack is mostly relaxed and enjoying his home-schooling.

Last year, when I removed him from school at midyear he knew 20 sounds (which was 2 more than he knew at the start of the school year!) and could spell 3 words.  A very stressed little boy. By the end of the year he was just starting to read a bit and had about 40 small sight words.  Still no spelling.  This year we have just completed two thirds of the year one curriculum in the last 10 weeks.  We are still having a problem with auditory processing with discriminating some sounds and short term memory sequencing with some sounds.  All in all I am rather chuffed.

For Jack, one of the most valuable skills you taught me was the Facial Reflexes Massage.  It changes the shape of his face, among other things!  This week was the first time it did not put him into a deep sleep.

Update on Jack - October 2008

Thought I'd fill you in on what I have been up to.

My own Jack is flying. He can hear all the sounds now and is reading and spelling beautifully. Wa almost never get any more RMT to do anymore with him. I am putting him back in school next year for year three.

He has been on Dr Tabrizian's protocol since May and we have just started chlorella for heavy metals.

Been trampolining for his sequencing and he easily does sequences of up to 22 now. Quite extraordinary!

Has just finished his fourth week of The Listening Program.

Last week we travelled to Perth for him to compete in the State Gymnastic Finals. He earned a third in High Bar. Have to have toes pointed for that!

He is generally a delight to be around and compliant. Hadly any challenging behaviour and he is socially confident.

It has been an awesome journey with him.

I just wanted to thank you for your efforts in this area and give you some feedback on how it has helped our family.  We started movements on our son and daughter as soon as I returned home to California. They love it and ask for it almost everyday.  We are already starting to see some results in our son who was brain damaged as an infant.  His memory and his confidence is increasing and the movements have a calming affect on him not to mention they both love playing on the floor with me and watching me do my movements.  His teacher has noticed a change in him also and she is very interested in the rhythmic movements, so who knows how many people will be helped as a result of one conference.

Thank you!!!!!!

I have been having a great time with Rhythmic Movements.  I am getting half pages of positive responses nearly every session - particularly with Autistic children.  One little girl made a real effort to tell her Mother about kittens.  She worked very hard to get the words out.  Her aunt told me that she had never seen her niece make that much effort in attempting to have someone understand her.

The other thing that we are noticing is that the young children are moving into the position for the next movement; or, as in one case with another Instructor she did Rocking from Feet and knees with the child, the child automatically went through several developmental movements on his own. The instructor just sat and watched.  After she told me about her experience, I started watching and I have experienced the same thing.

1)         I have had stunning results with ATNR this week with some of my regular customers, amazing calming softening changes in super-hyper children (7-12 yrs) with the gentle activations. Mothers are speechless at the relaxation that has descended - and we've seen good shifts before -........ I'm really, really surprised......and delighted of course. Wonderful start to their holidays.

2)         I saw a wonderful thing happen with the passive feet movements this week with a 12yr old nonverbal autistic boy.... his mouth is always very 'tight', top teeth often over bottom lip, lips 'thin' and taut, tucked in almost, and he doesn't use his tongue for eating yet, so that's been a goal for this term's work. i started using the movements with him after the gathering; this week as soon as we got together he lay flat on the floor "ready'(when we first started he didn't even feel safe enough to lie down, so we used to work from a sitting position). As i started with his feet and ankles, he smiled-  which has happened before, then his lips went all 'floppy' and he moved them round and round as his head moved, as if he were licking them but without the tongue, and then, and this blew me out, this boy who has a blunt guttural type voice when he does attempt to speak - sang!! (Usually I just hum or sing little rhymes as we do it, I'm no singer but the kids don't care) - only brief but it was a sweet voice!! So -go the Rhythmic Movements!

I was in Chester last fall doing INPP's course on reflex integration and learned about Harald's work through Sally Goddard. I am now back in the classroom with 6-9 year olds and find having the palette of Svetlana's, Sally's and Peter's, and what I know of Harald's work - well, wow! - it's very powerful. I work in a Montessori school and am trying to pioneer parent and staff education around reflexes and development BEFORE it becomes a learning challenge - so hopefully in the 3-6 program - our "Children's House."

I think your work is amazing and look forward to learning more.

I first discovered the RMT in 2003 while working in Poland at Svetlana Masgutova's Ph.D.  first summer camp for children with special needs. Dr. Harald Blomberg was using the RMT with children on an everyday basis and I was really intrigued, and when I returned back to work, I started using them in my daily practice especially with small children with whom Brain Gym was too difficult and with children with developmental challenges. On a few occasions, some children started crawling, and others began making sounds.

I also use the movements with people whose stress levels had caused tense shoulders or back problems. I use them for myself after a long day at work or after lengthy plane or car journey. Adults usually like the movements - they suddenly find themselves connecting to the child within and start relaxing - and finally smiling!

After attending Harald's Level 1 and 2 Rhythmic Movement Workshop in Melbourne, I started using it on all my clients, at the beginning of every session.

The movements I have done with my clients are basically the passive movements for the brain stem. It has had a most profound effect on every client, giving easy depth of access. It feels as though the brain stem relaxes and lets go of survival strategies, giving unimpeded access in a very relaxed and open way. They feel nurtured and I think their whole being feels safe and relaxed.

It is also a natural and relaxed way for me to connect with them energetically at the beginning of the session. The sessions have all flowed easily and openly.

June 18, 2008  My 78 year old uncle was profoundly affected in a very positive way by using RMT.  He suffered from Parkinson's Disease and was rapidly declining.  He was losing his ability to get his legs into a car and was using a walker, even in the house.  After 3-4 months of RMT, he was riding in cars and getting in and out without assistance.  He not only stopped using the walker, but was able to climb stairs.  RMT drastically improved the quality of his life and gave him the independence we so easily take for granted.

This past school year I was invited into a private Christian School to set up a program for a boy with severe ADHD
and Aspergers Syndrome, a high functioning form of Autism.  I included RMT in his program.  He went from focusing on himself to realizing their was a world around him and that he wanted to be a part of it.  When I asked his classroom teacher how he was doing, she said, "He's worse, he's clunking other kids on the head".  I was delighted because that told me he had moved to using a higher level of his brain.  This level of the brain reminds me of the alpha dog.  It is sometimes referred to as the reptilian level of the brain.  Reptiles have many rituals and they only feel safe when they are the "top dog" so to speak.  The next level of change was when this boy became very nurturing.  I could tell he had moved to the cognitive level of the brain, sometimes referred to as the mammalian level of the brain.  He then moved into the simian level of the brain.  This is the aping level.  He was able to learn by copying other people's behavior.  By the end of the school year he was able to use the highest level of the brain.  It was at this point he started to enjoy learning.

June 15th, 2008 Some of the very important gains which I have seen since using RMT are increased cognitive attention to task, increased learning ability, increased communication, increased visual focus, increased body awareness, decreased hyperactivity, and decreased physical and verbal aggression (such as head banging, meltdowns, physical aggression towards self or others). I have also been successful in training educational assistants, teachers and parents in the RMT movements so that they can continue to work with their children throughout the summer months with these calming movements. I have also experienced, with a young girl with autism, an increase in affection and hugging and visual eye contact, because she will come over to me now and set her feet right up to me and this is her way of requesting me to do the RMT passive stimulation from the feet.   Kim Willkom,                                                                                  Occupational Therapist                                                                          Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin

Dear Margaret
(RMT Consultant)

I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Since my son has started doing the Rhythmic Movement Training Exercises a month ago, my family and I have noticed lots of positive changes in my son.

My son's younger sister, likes only having to say his name once, instead of 20 times to get his attention.

There are so many positive changes in my son's confidence and ability to concentrate, to take in new information.

It is fantastic and priceless to know my son can have a normal childhood with no boundaries to get in his way.

Yours sincerely
